MEDIA RELEASE: Fodder Industry looking for tomorrow’s leaders
AFIA Executive Officer Darren Keating said “We are pleased to be offering the AFIA Leadership award sponsored by John Deere again in 2013. The award is open to people aged from 18 to 35 who are interested in becoming a future leader in the Australian fodder industry.”
“As the fodder market continues to grow both domestically and overseas so do the opportunities to for a career in fodder. To support this as an industry we need to invest in developing our young leaders, The Leadership award and Generation Ag is AFIA’s way of contributing towards this” said Mr Keating.
Tactical Segment Manager for John Deere, Gary Weegink said “The Calibre of applicants for the 2012 Leadership Scholarship was outstanding and I look forward to seeing this year’s applicants”.
“These young people are the future of the Australian fodder industry. John Deere is very keen to support young leaders in Australian agriculture and the AFIA leadership award is a great way of enabling this” Mr Weegink said.
2012 AFIA leadership award winner Rebecca Thistlethwaite of Armidale, NSW said “I got a lot out of the winning the AFIA Leadership Award, the contacts that I was able to make are a huge asset to me as a young leader in the Agricultural Industry. It was so great to be around like-minded people with drive and a purpose during the leadership program”.
Applications for the AFIA Leadership award are open until May 13. The winner will receive a fully funded scholarship, valued at $2,500, to attend the 5 day Marcus Oldham Leadership Program June 23 – 28, 2013. The winner is also invited to attend the Australian National Fodder conference in Palm Cove QLD on August 6-7, 2013.
The AFIA Leadership award is one of the four awards offered to show case excellence in the Australian fodder industry. The winners of each of AFIA’s awards will be presented at the AFIA annual conference dinner on Tuesday 6 August in Palm Cove; The other awards are the Plasback Sustainability award, the Innovation Award sponsored by Profile and the Photo Competition sponsored by Integrated Packaging.
