Ever wondered what the fodder industry looks like on the other side of the world? Well, the 2014 AFIA International Fodder Tour hosted by the Australian fodder industry Association (AFIA) is heading to the UK & Europe to explore just that.

“AFIA tours have a reputation for providing participants excellent opportunity to get an insight into the local fodder industries and network with the people who make it tick. From looking at the itinerary for the 2014 UK & Europe tour, next year will be no exception” said AFIA Executive Officer Darren Keating.

AFIA has been working with Swagman tours to come up with an itinerary which gives participants a chance to meet fodder industry stakeholders, visit farms and get an insight to fodder production and animal feeding systems throughout the UK, Germany and France.

“While fodder is the focus for the 2014 AFIA International Tour is not just about hay. The tour will take in the whole supply chain including a visit to the Plant Phonemics research centre at the Aberyswwyth University, looking at silage production in Ireland and visiting some mixed farming operations in Germany ” said Mr Keating.

“It’s not all work though as there will be time for sight-seeing and taking in the local culture, beer tasting and even a visit to a duck farm in France specialising in Foie gras” Mr Keating continued.

“Anyone with an interest in the fodder industry, animal feeding systems or just looking for a good excuse to have a look at farming in Europe will benefit from this opportunity” Mr Keating concluded.
