Fodder depots need more donations – VFF
LIONS Club volunteers and the Victorian Farmers Federation have called for urgent fodder donations and transport support to get hay to depots in Lancefield and Lindenow.
“We’ve started delivering large squares and round bales direct to some fire-affected farms and have lined up a couple of loads for the depots, VFF president Peter Tuohey said. “But we need more.”
“At this stage most of the fodder won’t be delivered to the depots until Friday at the earliest, with more due over the weekend. Supplies are limited and the VFF is asking everyone to be patient.
“If you’ve got spare fodder or agistment please give the VFF a call on 1300 882 833.”
The Department of Environment and Primary Industries and the VFF remind anyone seeking fodder, which the depots are for emergency support.
The fodder program will run until demand is met, but not beyond March 11.
“Securing fodder and agistment in the longer term is your responsibility, as we’ve got limited resources and we’re heavily reliant on the efforts of Lions Club and VFF volunteers,” Mr Tuohey said.
At this stage depots have been established at Lancefield and Lindenow, with donations being organised for delivery direct to farms in other parts of Gippsland and north of Shepparton.
A potential depot site has been identified at Morwell, but at this stage DEPI and the VFF are still assessing whether to activate the site based on need.
