- Slight increases across parts of the country, primarily with lucerne, but also across all fodder. The lack of rain is putting pressure on farmers who need to purchase more hay for feed. The alternative is to sell their livestock.
- Straw prices have been inching up slowly as it is a cheaper alternative to hay in certain regions.
- BoM Update: For May to July, there is an increased chance of unusually high minimum and maximum temperatures across large parts of Australia. Although recent widespread rainfall (between 15 and 50 mm) in Victoria and western New South Wales is welcome news for these dry areas, the current forecast from May to July is unlikely to support moderate crop yields. Additional rainfall along the New South Wales north coast and south-east Queensland coast is interrupting harvest and planting for horticultural crops. This is happening in areas that already have high soil moisture levels, exacerbating flood issues.
- Fertiliser: The market price on Urea is sitting around $800.00 per tonne. According to Farm Tender, there is a shortage of Urea internationally which may put pressure on availability domestically for forward orders into June, July and August.
- Buyers are encouraged to feed test and view fodder before purchase to ensure the quality of feed.
